My MX-5 Modifications
I made some minor modifications to my previous car, a 1992/1993 MX-5 SE and
this page has some more detail about them.
Flyin' Miata Single Exhaust
Made by Thermal Research for Flyin' Miata this single-exit exhaust is made from stainless steel, with this version for
normally aspiritated cars having a resonated mid-pipe so it's just nicely
loud instead of ear splitting! The exhaust has been on the car for a few
months now, so it's not at its cleanest.
Racing Beat 4-1 Exhaust Header
This stainless steel exhaust header is made by Racing Beat. Traditional tri-y headers are usually stronger
in the midrange, with 4-1 headers being stronger at the top end. With this
header Racing Beat set out to create a 4-1 header that had the top end power gains of the 4-1 header but retained the strength of a tri-y header in the midrange. It
looks beautiful, and bronzes nicely after use. The matt looking portion in the
photo on one of the tubes is just a trick of the light where a patch of direct
sunlight is falling on the exhaust.
Jackson Racing CAI
The stock air box and air filter naturally restrict the air flow into the
engine a bit, and they also sit near the exhaust header and so tend to
draw in warm air. This intake, by Jackson
Racing, draws cooler air from in front of the radiator and also
provides a shorter intake path and higher flow air filter to minimise
restriction on the air flow. Additionally because of the position of the
intake, when the car is moving there will be some air pressure which will
further help air flow through to the engine. It replaces all of the intake
plumbing up to the throttle body, except for the Air Flow Meter which is retained
and relocated.
